Pre season: Time to check your batteries
Now is a perfect time to take a look at your vessels battery system before the season really gets going. The first thing to do after winter is to ensure that your battery voltages are sitting where they should be.
Typically a fully charged battery will be showing around 13v on a multi-meter or battery gauge. To test them yourself, turn off your battery charger, wait for around 15 minutes and then read the voltage at each individual battery (you may need to disconnect them from the bank of batteries they’re in, grab a spanner) make a note of the voltage readings from each battery, leave them disconnected for 24hrs and then read the voltages again. If there is a loss in voltage of more than 10% they probably need to be changed.
